Twin Mirror is a story driving point and click game that relies heavy on story. A solid story at that, the game is really short and can be finished in one sitting. You play as Sam, a investigative journalist who left his hometown of Basswood, Virginia two years prior to the events of the game. He left on bad terms as its a small town and Sam felt everyone hated him because of an article he wrote about the Coal Mines which got it shut down, and as a result a ton minors lost their job. The reason he went back was to go to the funeral of his best friend. This game reviewed on the Xbox Series X.
Sam is interesting chracther he has a focusing problem, he needs help focusing on people and what they're saying, to the point where if you chose too he won't listen to anyone. However he has a voice in his head that helps him focus. Almost like a in head psychiatrist guiding him throughout the game. This person didn't have a name its was just Him, no one saw him but Sam and Sam would talk to him and other would wonder what Sam is looking out, but he didn't talk to him out loud only in his head. Him will try to sway your decision to what he believed was right working as a guide, but in the end its just a suggestion and sometimes his suggestions will be wrong, all choices are ultimately picked by you.
Sam does have intense focus when he is investigating though, this is where the bulk of the gameplay really takes place, inside of Sam's Mind Palace. When he enters this mode he is looking for clues, you walk around finding clues, and once you find them all, you now need to put them all together to solve the case or figure out what happened or what is the perfect way to proceed with a plan. You'll have different areas and it will be like was it option A or option B to start with, you pick the one you feel is right and continue to do things like this until you ready to try it out. If you get it wrong you'll see why as it will play out the error, if you get it right then of course the game will go on.
Sam will have points where he starts to lose himself a little and he needs to be reeled back in by Him, Him will then give you a focus mini game for a lack of a better word. For example you will have to find him before time runs out or you will have to listen to things and pick which one is the right him, things of that nature. One could say this game lacks actual gameplay, besides the Mind Palace you're just walking around talking to random people, and do most of these choices really matter? Now granted throughout the game you will have choices that do matter as this game as multiply endings, these choices will also make your experience different from mind if we didn't pick the same one.
Overal a slow start with a nice finish as I didn't really expect it to end the way it did or the more I played the more I got hooked. I'm into these story type games though, so it works for me, I wouldn't recommend this game to everyone though, as gameplay isn't really there and you might lose interest early on. I mean you do get to collect stuff and play Pac-Man! Good thing the story picks up and gets really good, because that's all this game has.
