You got to love Izzy Adesanya, the UFC Middleweight champion of the world. He has held the title for close to three years now and the confidence is definitely showing. Now his walk out clearly shows he isn't lacking any ,certainly a sell for a future WWE run, his octagon work never seizes to amaze. He faced Jared Cannonier, the American, who for all intents and purposes earned his title shot being number 2 in the division and also having beat Derek Brunson at UFC271. Now the concern for Izzy going into this one has got to be the fact that Jared used to be a heavyweight but dropped enough recently to make the division. Jared weighed an extra pound more than Izzy so tactically takedowns were not the best approach. Rightly , Adesanya went for thigh kicks, and patient jabs worked really well, you can't win every fight by knockout so those are really great point getters. To his credit , Jared used his strengths in the final two rounds to make the judges decision that much harder. The "Killa Gorilla" used effective power punches which upped his strike rate significantly (57%) to Izzy's 50%. Jared's downfall was that he didn't attempt a lot of strikes and he ultimately paid the price. Based on this performance, Cannonier deserves a second pop at Adesanya in the near future. Although Adesanya looks unstoppable, one guy who might be his immediate challenger is Alex Pereira of Brazil who scored an impressive KO victory in the undercard over Sean Strictland. Both have kickboxing backgrounds with Alex having a pair of Ws over Izzy in that discipline.
