The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics came to a close Sunday morning as the closing ceremonies sent the athletes from nearly 100 different countries back home.

Norway proved to be the best country in the competition, holding both the most medals and the most gold medals when it was all said and done. With their 37 medals and 16 golds, Norway remains at the top in both the overall medal and gold medal count.

The Russian Olympic Committee and Canada finished No. 2 and No. 3 with 32 and 27 medals respectively. The United States finished at No. 5 on the leaderboard with 25 medals and eight golds.

A quick peek at the last day

There were only five competitions on the final day of the Olympics as the last medals were handed out.

In the alpine skiing team event, the United States came up short, just missing the podium. Austria won gold, while Germany won silver and Norway won bronze.

In the women's 30km mass start, Therese Johaug of Norway won gold to secure her third and final gold medal of the games. American Jessie Diggins finished in second place to win her second medal of 2022.

Curling was played on the first day of the games with mixed double's, and curling was played on the last day of the games. In the women's gold medal match, Great Britain took down Japan 10-3 to close out the competition.

In men's hockey, Finland secured their second hockey medal. After winning bronze in the women's contest, the Finnish beat the ROC 2-1.

Finally, Germany continued their ice track dominance as it won the four-man bobsled competition. Not only did Germany win, but they also won second place, meaning that eight athletes from the same country won a medal in one event. Coming in third was Canada to avoid a sweep as they beat out a 4th place German team.
