They may share the same stadium but both sides could not be more different in philosophy. Inter with their enterprising wing backs forced Milan to change shape a bit to cover for the absence of Theo by going for a flat back four which turns into a back 5 in emergencies with Kessie slotting in. Inter will look back on this one as a missed opportunity to close the gap between them and the top two. They missed a glut of chances with culpability stopping with the likes of Lautaro and Barella. The Derby De la Madonina is a fiesty encounter so was expecting a lot of fouls but the refs may have been a little bit off form in this one. Kessie's defensive frailties on show by the perceived "foul" on Hakan Calhanoglu. I don't deny that Kessie was at fault in the face place for running towards his own goal which is the cardinal sin of defending. There was only a tangle of legs there , if anything Hakan fouls first by placing his foot in front of Kessie.

The second penalty was more authentic. Toure had a torrid time against Damian although some justice for the first penalty award in Lantauro missing it. Perisic was also in imperious form down the left against Calabria. Nien times out of ten the Croatian goes to the byline to cross, how Calabria couldn't read that is beyond me. But one disappointing aspect for Inter was the link up between Martinez and Dzeko which hasn't convinced me yet compared to its predecessor, Lukaku and Martinez. The Bosnian's strengths are in his aerial ability as well as his upper body strength. The Rossonerri didn't create enough chances to win this one. Both keepers were on form, the 37 year old Handanovic saving from Zlatan with his opposite number Tatarusanu saving the penalty. Milan preferring to play on the counter which was a mistake in my view, they lack the pace to do so.
