ATLANTA, GA – The New England Patriots (6-4), winners of four consecutive games, traveled to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take on the Atlanta Falcons (4-5).
The Patriots defense had their best performance of the season thus far; behind four fourth-quarter interceptions, four sacks and one defensive touchdown by Kyle Van Noy, the defense pitched a 25-0 shutout victory against the Falcons to win their fifth straight game.
Pats Dominate in First Half
The Patriots entered the second quarter up 3-0. They would also score the first touchdown of the game when Mac Jones connected with Nelson Agholor for a 19-yard touchdown to go up 10-0.
Mac Jones put on a near-flawless passing display in the first half. Jones completed 14 of his 15 passes for 136 yards and one touchdown as the defense had no answer for the passing attack.
The Patriots sacked Matt Ryan three times; two by Kyle Van Noy and one from Matthew Judon. Judon is now up to 10.5 sacks on the year with his sack in the first half on Matt Ryan
An illegal formation call on the Falcons cost them what could have been their only points on a Younghoe Koo field goal. The second field goal attempt was unsuccessful, which left them scoreless heading into halftime.
This Patriots defense gave up 64 yards of total offense and held the Falcons' top weapon, Kyle Pitts, in check as he had just one reception for seven yards. The Falcons offensive line did very little to help Ryan as he seemed under duress in the first half. The Patriots' defense looked as dominant as they have looked over their last four wins and looked in complete control in the first half.
New England Defense Forces Four Atlanta INT's
Mac Jones was the first to throw an interception as cornerback A.J. Terrell picked him off. However, the Falcons would still come up empty after an unsuccessful fourth-down attempt, resulting in a turnover on downs.
Matt Ryan would throw two interceptions on back-to-back possessions in the fourth quarter; one to Devin McCourty and the second to J.C. Jackson.
Kyle Van Noy would also return a Josh Rosen pass for a 35-yard pick-six. It was the third interception in the fourth quarter, but not the last.
The Falcons' third-string quarterback would join in on the action as Feleipe Franks threw an interception on his first and last play of the game as Adrian Phillips put an end to a nightmarish performance for the Atlanta Falcons.
