Bellator 271 aired live on Friday night from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Hollywood, Florida. In the main event, Cris Cyborg was set to defend her Bellator Featherweight Championship against Sinead Kavanagh. In the co-headliner, Linton Vassell went one on one against Tyrell Fortune in Heavyweight action. Here' how the action went down.

Women's Featherweight Bout

Ariene Blencowe def. Pam Sorenson

Decision Unanimous (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

The main card kicked off with a fight in the Women's Featherweight division as Ariene Blencowe took on Pam Sorenson. Blencowe landed a good right hand right away in this one. She had the striking advantage in this bout. As a result, Sorenson seemed outclassed and tentative on the feet. She looked to hold her opponent against the cage and avoid the striking.

In the second round, it was the same story. Despite her best efforts, Sorenson was unable to get this fight to the ground. She continued to clinch Blencowe in an attempt to avoid the strikes. When the fight was in the open, Blencowe landed the better shots. The third round saw much of the same. There was not a ton of action in this bout as Sorenson seemed hesitant to exchange. In the end, it was a clear unanimous decision win for Ariene Blencowe.

Featherweight Bout

Aaron Pico def. Justin Gonzales

Decision Unanimous (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Another big Bellator event, another showcase for Welterweight superstar Aaron Pico. Justin Gonzales came into this fight undefeated, however, he just could not keep up with Pico. It was a bell to bell shutout for the young superstar. Pico landed early and often as he ripped vicious hooks to the body of Gonzales. When it wasn't the strikes coming at Gonzales, it was the wrestling. Pico was able to continually take down his opponent throughout the bout.

Despite the onslaught from Pico, Gonzales continued to keep moving forward. Pico landed a hard body shot that would have put most men down. Somehow, Gonzales managed to survive and continue to look to land his offense. Down the stretch, it was much of the same as Pico secured his seventh takedown as the final round expired. In the end, it was another exceptional performance and a unanimous decision win.

Heavyweight Bout

Linton Vassell def. Tyrell Fortune

Decision Split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Next up was Heavyweight action in the co-headliner as Linton Vassell battled Tyrell Fortune. Vassell looked to take the center of the cage immediately. As the better wrestler, he looked to pressure Fortune. Fortune landed a good right hand that backed Vassell up briefly. Vassell was able to secure a takedown. He maintained position on the ground for most of the round. Despite taking back mount, he was unable to get the finish as Fortune survive the first.

Fortune stormed across the cage to start the second. He landed good combinations against the fence and was able to score a takedown of his own. Vassell was able to create a scramble and get back to his feet. While fighting in the clinch, Fortune ate a knee that went low that halted the bout. Fortune landed some hard strikes on the feet and scored another takedown. He followed up with good ground and pound that cut Vassell. Somehow, Vassell scrambled and scored a takedown of his own. He nearly finished a choke but finished the round on top landing good strikes.

In the final frame, Fortune again exploded forward with vicious combinations. An errant knee landed low on Vassell, and the action was paused again. After a long delay, Fortune again continued to land big shots. He followed up with a huge takedown. Despite the change in momentum, Vassell was able to gain top position again. The two fighters exchanged top position on the ground for the remainder of the round with Vassell getting the better of the exchanges. As a result, Linton Vassell won the fight via split decision.

Women's Featherweight Championship

Cris Cyborg (C) def. Sinead Kavanagh

Finally, it was time for the main event of the evening. Cris Cyborg was looking to make her third successful defense of her Featherweight Championship. Cyborg exploded forward with a huge combination at the start of the bout. The Champion then set her sights on a takedown but was unable to complete it. When the two fighters broke from the clinch, they both swung with big combinations. Cyborg landed two huge right hands that planted Kavanagh on the canvas. She followed up with strikes on the ground for the first-round knockout.

After the bout, Cyborg was asked about a potential matchup with free agent Kayla Harrison. The Champion made it clear that she is willing to fight anyone that was put in front of her. A potential fight between Cyborg and Harrison would be a huge event for the world of MMA.
