Young, Naive, Impulsive bursting out energy both emotionally and physically (usual behaviour to his age group) unaware of emotions, usually acting on them/ sweet and soft- but under frustration aggressive behaves aggressively. Their patience makes him stand out.

Comes from a mixed trace family where the south-east Asian heritage is important. Dad is rational, keeps it cool but still childish and playful. Mom is emotional, good at explaining why things happen around and inside the child. Background characters, anchor point where the child can get guidance when the world is too confusing. Loving happy family.

  • (Younger sibling maybe? Can indicate conflict?)
  • Grandparents are 1st generation immigrants- kind of talking the same language. (Maybe one comes to pick the kid)
  • Necklace as an accessory. Might be the target of the bullying. Given by grandma to bring luck and protection by Buddha, Chinese and Vietnamese tradition)
  • Eating with chopsticks or brining Vietnamese food around other children
  • Picking their skin based on Mama's habits (?)

I don't want to spend too much time setting up the scene. In my opinion, the story should be focused on how the main character handles the awakened demon and find a way to cope with it. Showing the scary side of human minds to children to help them recognize their own emotional state and find techniques for calming them down.

The bully also can be a microaggression from a friend. Words can be hurtful from childish curiosity and that can increase the inner conflict. Teaches both ways?

  • Little bad feeling monster appears on the shoulders and grows all day, becomes visible at night? Becomes visible in dreams?
  • In a dream environment the little boy finds a way to come good terms with the monster.
  • My story will combine: Asian representation and cultural diversity, emotional intelligence in a relatable situation and a solution that can work in a real life. Education socially and psychologically) specific enough
