Houston - It was a back and forth battle between the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros at the start of Game 2 of the ALDS, Tied 4-4 in the fifth inning. Both starters were pulled early as both teams looked to their bullpen to stop the bleeding.
The Astros exploded in the seventh inning as they were all over White Sox reliever Craig Kimbrel. Yordan Alvarez started the rally for the Astros, with two men on Alvarez singles to shallow center field. Bringing in Jose Altuve giving them the 5-4 lead. Carlos Correa hits a 2-run double to keep the two-out rally alive. Right after Correa's double, Kyle Tucker stepped up to the plate and hit a 2-run bomb to give the Astros a 9-4 lead.
Tucker's 2-run home run would be the sixth allowed by Kimbrel since joining the White Sox. He only gave up 1 in 36.2 innings with the Cubs.
The Astros look like the much superior team from top to bottom. They look great defensively and offensively, picking apart every mistake the White Sox made. They would take game 2 9-4, going up 2-0 in a best-of-five series.
Chicago Struggles
Although Chicago had some early success against Astros starter Framber Valdez, who has the highest ground ball rate in the MLB, after struggling yesterday grounding out 12 out of their 27 outs, Chicago was all over him as he gave up 7 hits and 4 runs.
However, the White Sox still continues to struggle to capitalize with men on base, as they left nine men. Astros relievers shut the Sox down as they only had four hits after Valdez was taken out in the fifth.
Walks would be the White Sox's biggest killer. Starter Lucas Giolito walked 5 batters in 4.1 innings. In total, White Sox pitchers walked 6 Houston hitters.
In order for the White Sox to bounce back in this series, they need to get those bats going. Especially with men on base and need to tighten up on the bump.
