Rising regional MMA prospect Josh "Tha Prodigy" Wright made his bare knuckle boxing debut at BKFC Fight Night Montana and was rewarded with Fight of the Night honors for his performance in an exciting, all-action fight.

Wright is the current Fusion Fight League Featherweight champion. Fusion Fight League is Montana's premier MMA organization. Wright took home the promotion's featherweight belt on June 5, 2021, with a first round ground and pound finish against Anthony Curtiss. The victory improved Wright's MMA record to 6-3.

While Wright is an MMA fighter, when the BKFC promotion made its way to Wright's home state of Montana, Wright decided to jump at the opportunity to make his bare knuckle debut. Wright normally trains at Dogpound Fight Team in Missoula, Montana. But Wright found himself in the Seattle area for work prior to his BKFC debut, so he trained at some local PNW boxing gyms to hone his boxing skills prior to the bout.

BKFC Fight Night Montana – Fight Report

Wright fought BKFC veteran Tom Shoaff at BKFC Fight Night Montana. Round 1 saw Wright open with solid defense as he was able to evade Shoaff's early attacks with nice head movement. Wright scored the first significant blows of the bout about twenty seconds after the opening bell when he charged forward and landed a hard 1-2 combination. Wright continued to press forward as he landed a left jab to the body. After Shoaff scored to the body, Wright showed a nifty check left hook followed by a left uppercut, overhand right combination.

The last minute of the first round featured fireworks as Shoaff scored with a huge right hand that caused Wright to momentarily double over and take a hard step to his right. That stinging shot only served to bring the fight out of Wright, however, as he immediately charged forward and went on the attack. A big right hand connected for Wright as he had Shoaff backing up. Wright pursued his man with bad intentions and he threw a left hook and right uppercut. Wright then scored with another big right hand as Shoaff was up against the ropes. Wright continued his pursuit as he later scored a hard left hand to the body, followed by a right hand that once again had Shoaff backing up. Wright then landed another huge right hand that saw Shoaff's legs buckle and nearly drop to the canvas. Wright continued to pursue Shoaff as he landed several more punishing blows. Late in the round, however, Shoaff scored with a big right hand the appeared to hurt Wright.

Round 2 started with both fighters trading heavy shots. Ten seconds into the round Wright nearly scored another knockdown with a counter right hand that had Shoaff bending over and backing up. Shoaff's experience and toughness were immediately evident, however, as Wright got a little overaggressive and Shoaff made him pay by dropping Wright with a counter right hand. After the standing 8 count, Wright charged forward immediately throwing strikes. Wright continued to aggressively press forward as Shoaff scored his second knockdown of the round as he found the mark with several hard hooks. Despite being badly hurt, Wright showed his warrior spirit by once more charging forward, throwing big strikes. But Shoaff closed the fight with his third knockdown of the round and secured the TKO stoppage at 1:25 of the second round.
