David Gordon Green says there will be a massive time jump between "Halloween Kills" and "Halloween Ends," which will complete his trilogy of films….

SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN HALLOWEEN KILLS

Even before cameras started rolling on production of "Halloween Kills," director David Gordon Green was already quietly plotting his plans to close out the trilogy with the final film title "Halloween Ends."

With "Halloween Kills" considered a hit at the box office after a huge opening weekend, Green has now turned his full attention to that third film in the series.

"Halloween Ends" is expected to start production in January with the release date still scheduled in October 2022 and Green revealed some big news about that film while wrapping up his interview commitments for "Halloween Kills."

While final touches are still being put in place on the script, Green said that unlike 2018's "Halloween" and "Halloween Kills," which actually take place on the same night in one extended story, the third film in the series will jump into the future before a final confrontation between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode.

"There is a time jump," Green told Collider. "It gets back onto a contemporary timeline, so it'll jump four years.

"This weekend, I was rampaging on a new pass of [the script], but we start prep in two weeks. So they're wanting me to lock in something more definitive, which I think we'll be in good shape for that to shoot in January."

The jump forward in time makes a lot of sense based on how "Halloween Kills" ended as well as the realistic recovery time needed by many characters appearing in that film.

For instance — Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) largely sat out most of the major action sequences in "Halloween Kills" and she never actually interacted with Michael Myers again in the sequel but that's all because of the injuries the character sustained in the first film.

"That's a big thing," Green explained. "A lot of this movie was tricky, not only in writing the Shape and his lack of character, but keeping her in a realistic scenario. There's a graphic surgery that we film of her. Then once you've done that, she's not going to be doing a lot of Kung Fu so."

Of course, Laurie will be confronting a tragedy in her own life after Michael killed her daughter Karen in the closing moments of "Halloween Kills," which likely sets up a final showdown between them in the final film.

In a separate interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Green promises that "Halloween Ends" will ultimately feel like a much different film than the first two and he's still making changes — including plans for the ending — ahead of production starting in the New Year.

"It's very different in tone from Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills, and I think that's part of my self-indulgence," Green said. "I very often jump around in genres and explore different themes and characters through movies. So I've made a point for my own interest as a fan to take different technical approaches to each of the three in this trilogy.

"So I'm excited to show you guys what we're working on, but we're just cooking it up right now. I'm sure it will evolve. I just came up with a new twist ending on the ending that existed a couple weeks ago, and that's something that only I hold the piece of paper that has those words on it. So no spoilers here."

"Halloween Ends" is currently set for release on October 14, 2022. "Halloween Kills" is currently in theaters and also available on the Peacock streaming service.
