WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jared Goff has been named the Week 5 NFLPA Community MVP after distributing more than 40,000 pounds of fresh food and supplies to 500 food insecure families in Detroit.

"It's an incredible honor to be named NFLPA Community MVP," Goff said.

The Detroit Lions quarterback used his off day on October 5 to make an impact in his new team city, partnering with Forgotten Harvest to host a mobile food pantry at Ford Field. Local families in need drove through the stadium parking lot, where they were provided with fresh food and essential materials by Goff himself.

Since arriving in Detroit via trade earlier this year, Goff has quickly made a difference within his new community. In August, he partnered with the Detroit Lions Foundation so that all proceeds from his JG16 apparel line are donated and distributed throughout Detroit for mutually agreed upon youth initiatives.

In the coming months, Goff plans to broaden his commitment in the Motor City by providing winter coats to those experiencing homelessness; partnering with a local, youth-based nonprofit for the NFL's My Cause My Cleats campaign; conducting monthly Zoom readings to students at local children's centers; and creating a national health and wellness campaign to build fitness courts across Michigan.

"I am extremely passionate about impacting the community where I play beyond the football field," Goff said. "The city of Detroit has embraced me and in return, I want to do all I can to leave my mark."

The former No. 1 overall draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams also hasn't stopped giving back to those in his original team city. After announcing a long-term partnership to help the students in the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) in California last year, Goff returned to Inglewood in April to unveil the first fruits of this initiative – a newly remodeled library and the groundbreaking for a new STEAM lab and makerspace at Warren Lane Elementary School.

These efforts build on the five-year veteran's widespread charitable work since entering the NFL. During the outset of the pandemic, Goff donated $250,000 -- the equivalent of one million meals -- to the Los Angeles food pantry and 20,000 masks for the students of IUSD and their families. He also purchased and donated backpacks for 1,000 first-through-third graders in hopes of leveling California's educational playing field.

In honor of Goff being named this week's Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to his charity or foundation of choice. Our supporting partner, Aldine Sports Association, will create customized T-shirts and hoodies featuring his unique Community MVP superhero illustration made by HEARTLENT Group. The apparel will be sold on ASA's website during the season, with a portion of all proceeds going to Goff's foundation or charity of choice.

Goff, along with the other 2021 Community MVPs, will become eligible for this year's Alan Page Community Award, which is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player.

The Community MVP campaign is part of the NFLPA's continued efforts to support the year-round, civic outreach and engagement of its player members. Please visit the NFLPA Community MVP website to learn more about the program.
