Despite Hitches At Matazem: Thousands Welcome PM in Bamenda

The population of the North West region have massively turned out to welcome Prime Minister head of government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute on his peace mission in the region.

The prime minister arrived Bamenda, chief town of the North West region on Tuesday October 5 on a four days working visit in the region. His stay in Bamenda is on high instructions of the president of Cameroon to preach peace with the people and to implement some of the resolutions that were proposed at the major national dialogue.

Arriving Customs at Up Station, the prime minister was warmly recieveed by thousands including dance groups and individuals who defied fear and welcome him in grand style.

Thanking the population in his welcome address at the North West governor's junction, the prime minister told them that his visit is inline with the promised he made two years ago. "Thank you people for this wonderful welcome. I came here on instructions of our father, president Paul Biya, after he sent us here two years ago to organise a big meeting that will look into the crisis rocking the North West and South West regions," prime minister Dion Ngute said.

Two years after the major national dialogue, the prime minister said president Paul Biya has sent him back with another beautiful message. " The president asked me to come and tell you people that he has accomplished the things he promised to do," the PM said as the population responded with hands of applaud. The PM added that the problems that were raised by Lawyers and Teachers have been looked to.

The prime minister added that because all the problems have been looked into, there is no need for people to be living again in the bush. "Because all these problems have been looked into, there is no need punishing our children and the in the bush again and making life difficult for us again,"

Discussing on the peace mission that brought him to the region, prime minister Joseph Dion Ngute said the entire population including him will work for peace to return in the region. " Since all of us want peace, we have to collectively work by explaining to those who are holding guns in the bush and making life difficult for us that time has come for us to clean the places and come back together as one people," PM Dion Ngute said

Introducing his delegation to the population, PM Dion Ngute begged on the the people to be peaceful so that the North West region can enjoy the peace that used to reign there before.

The prime minister will in the days ahead meet with parliamentarians religious leaders and other important personalities in the region to discuss and implement some of the resolutions of the major national dialogue like the special status that was granted to the Anglophone regions.

Before the prime minister arrived Bamenda from the West region where he stopped to greet administrative authorities of the region, his convoy with some gun shots allegedly from separatist fighters were heard from a distance, but state soldiers sent them back at Matazem, way into the North West region where he stopped for the population to accompany him. His speech at Matazem ended half way as he was hurriedly rushed into the vehicle and the convoy left for Bamenda.
