GHS100 to be deducted from National Service Personnel allowances for Cathedral: Secretariat breaks silence

Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy executive director for the National Service Scheme speaks about deducting monies from allowances of service personnel to contribute to the building of the National Cathedral claims.

Information circulated on the internet over the weekend indicated that this year's Service personnel are going to be made to contribute to the building of the National Cathedral which these contributions are going to be taken directly from their monthly allowances.

Mrs. Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy executive director for the scheme speaking on Ghana Television (GTV), denied the claims indicating that the contribution to the building of the National Cathedral is voluntary and not compulsory.

She indicated that allowances paid to service personnel are non-taxable and thus there is no way monies can be deducted unless it's sanctioned by the national service Personnel Association (NASPA).

She added, "It isn't true, what happens is that the GHS 559.05 paid to the National Service Personnel, there's no tax deduction on it, the figure comes as it is, nobody can deduct anything unless it's something that NASPA has approved, that's the personnel association".

Finally, NASPA National Congress has already been held and that they didn't bring us anything that the council had stated that they want to do any donation to the Cathedral or not, she added.
