After two weeks of racing there was little resistance for the initial three men breakaway at the beginning of the race. The flat roads coupled with strong winds played a part in affecting the finishing times. Florian Senechal of France winning it pipping Matteo Trentin to the finish. No change in the Red jersey GC positions. The split in the peloton at around 58km was due to the strong winds on the downhill. How do you cycle in strong winds? Crosswinds such as one in this instance are particularly hazardous as opposes to headwinds. They can blow you off the road or against a fellow competitor. Use a bike with strong tire traction and do not use deep section rims on wheels as they can catch the winds similar to how a sail catches them. Put some space between you and the nearest rider so that you adjust accordingly if you come against a sudden gust.
