A fourth straight gold medal for Team USA underlining their status as the premier basketball nation in the world. Durant's 29 points helping US get revenge for the defeat when the two clashed in the group stage. The dominance of the US so impressive given it has come pretty soon after a gruelling NBA season. The international teams are finding it difficult to close the gap in class. France did not disgrace by any stretch here only losing by 5 points showing they are not too far behind. What could make world basketball more interesting and competitive is to have another league maybe in Europe on par financially and quality wise with the NBA. France's Gobert of the Utah Jazz was big on the paint ending up having 16 points for the match alongside his fellow big guy Moustapha Fall. Jrue Holiday had a great Tokyo 2020 defensively and offensively. His 11 points and 5 rebounds also cannot be underestimated. Jrue adding the gold medal to the NBA title he won last month with the Bucks.
In keeping with the trend they set here in Tokyo, US we'll slow off the blocks missing shots from outside the arch, they were a miserable zero for 7 from there at one point in the first quarter. But when KD is in the mood it is hard to stop the dude and he bossed the following three quarters like the Don he is. France to their credit quietened him down a little in the fourth quarter but damage had already been done. The two major plays for me happened in the first quarter. Check out 5-2. KD is not known as a strong drive to the basket type of player. He showed that he has some variations to his plays with a drive in the heart off the France defense there and against Gobert of all players too. The second was at 18-15. France showing great ball movement to beat the shot clock but only just. USA not getting tight on the man with the ball earlier in the play. France deservedly on the podium in my opinion. Jokic of Serbia is the NBA MVP which shows the world is progressing in basketball but would like to see more foreign players going to the NBA.
