Opening Drive

College football is back. In one of the first games of the year, Alcorn State faced off against North Carolina Central. Alcorn State's offense was clicking early. The opening drive for Alcorn State used 5 minutes of the game clock. They capitalized on the long drive, as Felix Harper threw a touchdown to Juan Anthony Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown.

Early Season Mistakes

After forcing a stop Alcorn State got the ball back. However, mistakes early would hurt them. After scoring the touchdown, on their first drive, Alcorn State missed a field goal. Their next drive ended in an Alcorn State fumbled. These mistakes allowed North Carolina Central to capitalize. Late in the second quarter, Davius Richard had a 6-yard touchdown run to tie it up, 7-7.

Comeback

North Carolina Central got the ball coming out of the half and took advantage. A 75-yard 9-play drive resulted in a touchdown. Richard was back on the scoreboard again with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 13-6 NCCU. Alcorn State seemed to gain some momentum back on the next play by blocking the PAT. Later in the quarter, after recovering a fumble, Alcorn State had a short field. The Braves took advantage of this and scored another touchdown to go up 14-13.

Play of the Game

Early in the fourth quarter, the score was 14-16 with a made field goal by the Eagles to take the lead. The Eagles forced a three and out followed by an ESPN top 10 play. Brandon Codrington returned a 77-yard punt for a touchdown. This electrifying return was the nail in the coffin for the game. North Carolina Central came away with a 23-14 victory over Alcorn State.
