The Boston Celtics have been making a bunch of moves this offseason to get themselves more competitive for the 2021-2022 season. Brad Stevens has had a great first offseason as the Celtics GM. But one question that had repeatedly come up was what would happen with Marcus Smart? Would he be back in the fold longterm? Could he be a name to attract other teams in trades? Well, now we know what to expect from Smart. Marcus Smart has signed a four year max contract extension worth 77.1 million dollars.

Of course this isn't the first time Smart has signed a four year extension to stay with the Celtics. So what does this mean for the Celtics going forward?

Yes, I understand the Celtics just got Dennis Schroder. Don't forget, that's only on a one year deal. Once Schroder is gone, Smart is going to be the guy running the show. I'm okay with this. If he doesn't take too many shots away from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, then I'm fine with the move. So What Happens with Bradley Beal?

Could this eliminate the Celtics from pursuing Bradley Beal in the 2022 offseason? Maybe. Or it could set the Celtics up for a run at the talented Wizards guard. Imagine a starting lineup of Smart, Beal, Tatum, Brown, and Robert Williams? Talk about a complete lineup. Jaylen Brown is making about 25 million this upcoming season and making 27 million the follow season. Jayson Tatum will be making 30 million next season. So with Smart making a little under 20 million with this new extension, the Celtics can bring another good sized deal to their payroll. The t would fit Bradley Beal to a tee!
