OWINGS MILLS, MD – The second round brought a lot of movement to the leaderboard once again, so let's jump right to what happened at Caves Valley Golf Club.

Leader (No It's Not Jon Rahm)

Bryson DeChambeau – 16 Under

Bryson came out firing on Friday, starting his round with 2 straight birdies and then an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. Throughout the rest of the round, Bryson was able to card 6 more birdies and a second eagle to put him at an amazing 12-under 60 for the day. However, he did have a chance at golfs illustrious 59 with a birdie putt on 18, but unfortunately, he missed. Pretty much everything was on for Bryson. He was driving the ball 347 yards on average, 7 yards longer than his average on the week, hit 88% of greens, and lastly had 3.039 strokes gained putting. The only thing Bryson didn't have going for him was driving accuracy since he only hit 50% of the fairways. This is not surprising, as we have seen all year Bryson have trouble controlling his driving after his newfound ability to crush the golf ball. However, he is used to it at this point since he was still able to hit most greens in regulation, even if he wasn't in the fairway.

Impact Players

Patrick Cantlay – 15 Under

Patrick Cantlay also had a great day. He was able to get the round started with a birdie on hole 1, and it was more of the same for the rest of the round. After his opening birdie, Cantlay wrote 9 more on his scorecard during the rest of the round. However, Patrick did have one bogey coming on 17. In the end, this bogey kept him out of that top spot with Bryson Dechambeau. The main story for Cantlay was his putting. He gained an amazing 5.137 strokes on the field, and if he wants to win, he will have to keep that going.

Jon Rahm – 14 Under

In the last 2 weeks, Jon Rahm has led at the end of 4 out of 6 total rounds, today was one of those days. Rahm has been playing very consistently lately, however, the main problem is while he is shooting 3 or 4 under every day, people like Cantlay and Bryson are just going so low these average rounds could not keep up.

However, in the 2nd round, Rahm was able to shoot a 6-under 66. This puts him 2 strokes off the lead, and still with the chance to win on Sunday.

My Predications for The Weekend

I expect this tournament to be a 3 man race between DeChambeau, Cantlay, and Rahm. If Bryson can follow up his amazing 12-under day with a similar play, there is no reason he shouldn't run away with this. However, those are very rare rounds to see. With that being said, I think Rahm will step up and battle Bryson down the stretch Sunday for a win.
