One thing you rarely see in tennis is an almost perfect tie breaker. Monfils was full value for it in the first set against Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in their first round match in Cinci. To say Gael was perfect in that set will be a lie, Dusan was very competitive. If you are like me I couldn't wait for Monfils to come to court, was vindicated with shots like this one. Check out 6-5 deuce, to generate power and direction on the forehand he had to get feet off the floor for that one. Dusan is a player who has not broken into the top 10 in men's tennis as of yet, but pretty decent on clay. But on hard court he was no match for Gael who bamboozled him in the breaker to win it to love. In the second set, Dusan showed that clay court play can be transferred to a hard court on 3-1(adv Monfils). Great baseline groundstrokes with Gael just about holding on. The execution on the drop shot wasn't up to scratch for the Serb though. Dusan going a double break down and there was no coming back for him In terms of serving, Gael had the most Aces but also had shockingly high double faults, 5 Aces to 8 double faults. My acceptable ratio is at least 2 to one. Dusan had 1 ace and 2 doubles showing he trudged on the side of caution when serving in this match.
