This winter, Chaim Bloom made an under the radar signing in outfielder Hunter Renfroe. Bloom signed the 29-year-old right fielder for $3 million. 

When the Red Sox signed Renfroe, there was a portion of the fan base who bashed the signing. Renfroe was coming off a subpar season in 2020, granted it was the pandemic shortened season.

In 42 games with the Rays, Renfroe hit .156 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs. The season prior, he hit .216 with the Padres but crushed a career high 33 home runs. 

Power Surge

Renfroe is enjoying a power surge during the month of August. The Red Sox slugger hit his 23rd home run of the season on Monday.

Renfroe's home run came in the sixth inning against the Rangers. The moon shot homer from Renfroe went 425-feet over the Green Monster. It gave the Sox a 3-1 lead over Texas at the time.

Renfroe's home run now gives him eight during the month of August. That leads all of baseball with eight hitters tied for second with seven home runs behind him.

Give Bloom credit where credit is due

The power has always been there for Renfroe and Bloom recognized that. The low price tag attached to Renfroe gave the impression to fans the Red Sox we're going cheap. However, the current ROI from Renfroe has paid massive dividends. 

The veteran outfielder is having a solid first year with Boston. He's played in 113 games hitting .254 with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs. 

Renfroe will earn $3 million this season, which is an absolute steal for Bloom. It's time to start to give Bloom credit for some of his great moves.
